Víti ( Icelandic víti "hell") is a volcanic lake , more precisely a maar , on the Icelandic central volcano Krafla . It was created in 1724 with a steam explosion at the beginning of a five-year series of eruptions called the Mývatnfire that lasted until 1729. The lake measures 320 m in diameter and is about 33 m deep.
