V. Kumar Murty

Vijaya Kumar Murty (* 1956 ) is an Indian-Canadian mathematician who specializes in number theory , arithmetic geometry, and algebraic geometry .

Murty studied at Carleton University with a bachelor's degree in 1977 and received his doctorate in 1982 from Harvard University with John T. Tate ( Algebraic cycles on abelian varieties ). He is a professor at the University of Toronto .

In 1991 he received the Coxeter James Prize and in 1995 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada .

He is the brother of mathematician M. Ram Murty , with whom he works a lot.
