history

After lengthy discussions about the need for an event center and various debates on the location, the municipal council decided to build it in July 1990. After the plans were presented in March 1991, the foundation stone was laid in August of the same year. The VAZ was opened at the end of September 1992.

After the original operator went bankrupt in 2002, NXP Veranstaltungsbetriebs GmbH took over management. Since the takeover, the number of events has risen from just over 80 initially to almost 300 in 2011. In 2011, over 550,000 visitors were counted.
