VDI 3414

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The series of guidelines VDI 3414 of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) enables an assessment of the quality of surfaces of wood and wood-based materials .

scope of application

For the quantification of the characteristics, the guideline describes the necessary test and measurement methods and gives instructions for the practical implementation of surface measurements on wood and wood-based materials. This can be used both when assessing the processing quality of a machine and when assessing the surface of a component supplied.

For milled , sawn or turned surfaces, the process-specific surface properties (usually referred to as surface defects) are described and recommendations for their measurement are given. The same procedure is described specifically for ground surfaces.

The German and the corresponding English version contain a technical glossary of the two most important technology languages.

The series of guidelines VDI 3414 is divided into 4 sheets with the following topics:

  • Sheet 1: "Assessment of wood and wood-based material surfaces - surface characteristics"
  • Sheet 2: "Assessment of wood and wood-based material surfaces - test and measurement methods"
  • Sheet 3: "Assessment of wood and wood-based material surfaces - milled, sawn, planed, drilled and turned surfaces"
  • Sheet 4: "Assessment of wood and wood-based material surfaces - sanded surfaces"
