VG Cats

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VG Cats is a Canadian webcomic directed by Scott Ramsoomair . The draftsman parodies video games in his strips , but has built his own characters into the series in addition to the characters from the games he parodies. The most common characters are the cats Leo and Aeris, who both love video games.

content

VG Cats doesn't tell a coherent story. Each comic strip is a parody of a video game or of current events from the scene. Often the specially invented characters Leo and Aeris represent characters from the games or are otherwise integrated into the strips.

Thus, most of the punch lines are based on video games, which means that outsiders or people who have not dealt with the topic will understand little.

characters

Leo Leonardo - One of the two main characters in the series. Leo is a hangover and a little stupid. He falls for things easily and does anything for video games. He often does stupid and / or rash things that drive Aeris to despair. Leo embodies a male video game character in many strips. Leo's name is derived from the author's hangover.

Aeris - Aeris, like Leo, appears in almost every comic and is one of the original characters in the series. Unlike Leo, she thinks about the things she does and only then acts. Aeris embodies a female video game character in many strips. Aeris' name is derived from the author's cat.

Pantsman - Pantsman is a hero who fights against evil and embodies the author's alter ego. His name comes from the fact that he uses boxer shorts as a mask, which he wears on his head. Even when he fights against evil, he can also act very selfishly, for example when he takes revenge on Batman by defacing his car. Pantsman does not appear in the regular video game parody comics, but often in comics with their own plot that have nothing to do with video games.

Dr. FG Hobo - Dr. Hobo is a homeless man who thinks he's a doctor. He drinks and carries a paper bag on his head. As a rule he is drunk and cannot speak properly. Dr. Hobo died in Strip 183. However, he appears as a ghost between strips 269 and 270 in a guest comic. In Strip 314 you can see him alive again.

Krug - Krug is a monster with red fur and yellow eyes. From some comics you learn that he is friends with Leo and Aeris, for example because they play a computer role-playing game together . He's a very simple mind and doesn't speak grammatically correct either. Krug also bears the title "Lord of the Disgusting", which, however, was not actively used in the comic.

Ternaldo - Ternaldo is another friend of Leo and Aeris. He is a passionate fan of trading card games , which is often used in various comics. He usually represents a very enthusiastic computer gamer , who mostly gullibly follows the hype of a title, but drops it again after a short time because he has lost interest in it.

Johnny Evilguy - Johnny usually turns up as a seedy dealer who wants to sell the characters something at an overpriced price. In a parody of the video game Neverwinter Nights , for example, he demands the left testicle of a character.

origin of the name

The title is also derived from the two cats. VG stands for "Videogame" and Cats means "Katzen", which means "video game cats" in German.
