The VL Humu was a fighter aircraft for the Finnish Air Force built in 1944 by the Finnish state aircraft construction company Valtion lentokonetehdas .
history
The decision to build the Humu was based on the low number of 44 Brewster F2As used by the Finnish Air Force. Torsti Verkkola, Arvo Ylinen and Martti Vainio were to lead the project. The Air Force originally ordered 90 aircraft of this type, but production was stopped again after the first aircraft was built. The aircraft received the registration number HM-671 and the first flight took place on August 8, 1944.

The Humu was based on the American Brewster F2A . Due to the scarcity of metals, it was built largely from wood. The basic structure was still made of steel and was based heavily on the construction of the Brewster template . It was 250 kilograms heavier than calculated, the engine was too weak and the aircraft overall did not meet the standard of a fighter aircraft from 1944.

The HM-671 flew a total of 19 hours and 50 minutes. The fully restored HM-671 is now on display in the Central Finland Aviation Museum.
