Valtion lentokonetehdas

The State Finnish aircraft factory valtion lentokonetehdas was on February 23, 1928. the company Ilmailuvoimien Lentokonetehdas also IVL (or IVL) emerged Finnish aircraft construction company. The company was first subordinated to the Finnish Air Force , later to the Finnish Ministry of Defense. The company's products were marked with the first letters of the company "VL".

The company initially produced in Suomenlinna and Santahamina near Helsinki . For strategic reasons, however, these locations were considered unfavorable and a new location was sought near the Soviet border. In the 1930s the company moved to Tampere . Hundreds of people found work there during the Great Depression.

In 1936 the company was relocated to Härmälä near Tampere. During the Second World War , Valtion lentokonetehdas German ( Junkers Ju 88 ) and British ( Bristol Blenheim ) bombers were maintained and built.

In 1936, the factory near Tampere employed 665 people, and in 1941 the figure was 1,697. During wartime production was spread across Finland to avoid the possibility of destruction in a single attack. Engine production was outsourced to Kokkola and wood processing to Kylmäkoski . Camps were set up in Viiala and Pirkkala . Other institutions were at Pori and Kolho . The factory of the Karhumäki brothers was completely subordinated to the Valtion lentokonetehdas towards the end of the war.

After the Second World War, the Finnish state consolidated its industrial facilities. VL became part of VMT (Valtion Metallitehtaat, Staatliche Metallwerke ), today's Valmet . When Valmet was privatized in 1996, aircraft construction was spun off and assigned to the Finnish arms company Patria as Patria Finavitec.
