Nash Special Eight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nash Special Eight was a series of eight-cylinder passenger cars produced by the Nash Motors Company in Kenosha . It replaced the 980 and was manufactured from 1932 to 1933.

The Special Eight, model 1080 , introduced on March 1, 1932 , had a chassis with a 3,251 mm wheelbase. It had an overhead eight-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 4,274 cm³ (bore × stroke = 79.4 mm × 108 mm), which delivered 100 bhp (74 kW) at 3,400 rpm. The drive and brake components (single-disc dry clutch, 3-speed gearbox with center shift, rear-wheel drive, mechanical brakes on all four wheels) came from the previous year's model. There were various open and closed structures with 2 to 5 seats.

In 1933, the Special Eight, model 1170 , got the chassis, engine and appearance of the Standard Eight model from the previous year and thus - like the larger Advanced Eight - descended one class to differentiate itself more clearly from the larger models. The wheelbase was only 3,073 mm, the now side-controlled engine had a displacement of 4,054 cm³ (bore × stroke = 76.2 mm × 111.1 mm) and developed 85 bhp (62.5 kW) at 3,200 / min.

In 1934, the small eight-cylinder models such as the Special Eight were discontinued without replacement.
