Dover (commercial vehicle brand)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dover was a truck brand, which the Hudson Motor Car Co. in Detroit was one. Hudson launched the brand in July 1929 as Dover built by Hudson Motors .

When they were introduced, the following bodies were available: tarpaulin, flatbed with roof, flatbed without side walls, flatbed with side walls and chassis. Prices ranged from $ 595 to $ 695. Other truck bodies were of Hercules in Evansville (Indiana) made.

Dover's largest customer was the US Post, which used the trucks for mail distribution and delivery vehicles. Dover trucks were very durable; US Mail used some of these vehicles until the late 1950s.

The Dover brand was withdrawn from the market in 1930 or 1931; Hudson's notes are not so accurate on this point. Not many vehicles have survived; the only restored mail delivery van belongs to a Michigan collector.
