Nash 880

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nash 880 (pronounced: Eight-Eighty ) was a series of eight-cylinder passenger cars from the Nash Motors Company in Kenosha . It replaced the six-cylinder Twin Ignition Six and was only manufactured in the 1931 model year. In the following year, the series was renamed the Nash 980 (read: Nine-Eighty ).

The 880 had a chassis with a 3,073 mm wheelbase. Its overhead eight-cylinder in-line engine with 3,933 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 76.2 mm × 108 mm) developed 88.5 bhp (65 kW) at 3,400 rpm. The drive and brake components (single-disc dry clutch, 3-speed gearbox with center shift, rear-wheel drive, mechanical brakes on all four wheels) came from the previous year's model. There was a 4-door sedan, a 2-door convertible and two different 2-door coupes.

The 1932 model was introduced on June 1, 1931 and was called the 980 . With the same displacement, the engine now made 94 bhp (69 kW) at 3,400 rpm. As with the larger model 990 , the radiator grille got a slight V-shape and the main headlights got a more elongated (rocket) shape. Instead of the two front bumper parts lying on top of each other, there was a one-piece bumper.

On March 1, 1932, the Special Eight model 1080 replaced this model series.
