The Eagle Summit was a lower middle class passenger car model imported or produced by the US automobile manufacturer Eagle from 1988 to 1996.
The Summit were clones of some contemporary Mitsubishi models that were sold by the newly created Chrysler brand Eagle from autumn 1988.
Model history
The Summit was available from model year 1989 as a four-door sedan in basic and LX versions with 1.5-liter four-cylinder or 1.6-liter four-cylinder with two overhead camshafts. The Mitsubishi Lancer was the basis for the Summit .
In the 1990 model year, the model range expanded into the Basic, DL, LX and ES versions.
For the 1991/92 model years, the four-door Summit was no longer imported from Japan, but manufactured at the Diamond Star Motors plant in Illinois . In addition, the imported three-door Summit, a variant of the Mitsubishi Colt, went on sale . The range of models consisted of a basic model and an ES. The DOHC engine was omitted, the 1.5 liter gained in power.
From model year 1992, the Mitsubishi Space Wagon also came into the range as the Eagle Summit Wagon as DL, LX and AWD (with all-wheel drive). From 1993 the latest generation of Colt and Lancer models was sold as the Summit. All models were imported again from this point in time.
The sale ended in the summer of 1996.
