Kylmäkoski [ ˈkylmækɔski ] is a former municipality in the Pirkanmaa region in western Finland . At the beginning of 2011 it was incorporated into the city of Akaa .

Kylmäkoski is located in the south of the Pirkanmaa landscape. The church village of Kylmäkoski is one of three settlement centers ( taajama ) of Akaa , along with Toijala and Viiala . It is located on State Road 9 nine kilometers south of Viiala and 14 kilometers west of Toijala on the Tarpianjoki River . In contrast to the industrial towns of Toijala and Viiala, the Kylmäkoski area is more rural. The former municipality of Kylmäkoski has an area of ​​199.7 square kilometers (of which 8.8 square kilometers inland water). The last population of the municipality was 2,608. The Kylmäkoski community was monolingual in Finnish .

Kylmäkoski, which originally belonged to the Akaa parish , received its own prayer house in 1666 . The political community Kylmäkoski was created in 1895 by breaking away from Akaa. In early 2011, Kylmäkoski was again incorporated into the city of Akaa. Kylmäkoski Church, built of red brick, dates from 1900.

The coat of arms of Kylmäkoski was drawn by heraldist Kaj Kajander and adopted in 1965. Since it was incorporated into Akaa, it has only served as an unofficial coat of arms. The blazon reads: The silver and red coat of arms, divided by a wave cut , shows a silver snowflake in a pine cut below . The speaking coat of arms refers to the place name Kylmäkoski, which literally means "cold rapids".
