Snowflake (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The snowflake , also known as snow crystal , is a common figure in heraldry and is one of the more recent heraldic images .

The representation in the coat of arms is a strongly stylized replica of the natural crystal form of the snow in the six-fold star shape. This nasty figure was not known in ancient literature. In modern heraldry, the snow crystal appears mainly in the coats of arms of the northern states of Europe , such as Sweden , Norway and Finland . Here, the flake in the coat of arms refers to the meteorological features. Otherwise it also symbolizes winter , for example with the sun the seasons (e.g. Bad Kleinkirchheim , together with the fountain for the spa season), or locally important winter sports (e.g. Saalbach-Hinterglemm , together with a pair of skis, similar in Lillehammer or Bloke ).

The colors are primarily white or silver.
