The Hr13 series was a series of diesel-electric locomotives that were procured by the Finnish State Railways (VR) between 1962 and 1965 . These locomotives with the C'C 'wheel arrangement had two diesel engines that drove the generators, and an electric traction motor for each bogie that drove all of its axles (mono-motor bogie). The first two locomotives were manufactured by Alsthom in Belfort (France) in 1962 . The remaining 52 were built between 1963 and 1965 under license from Lokomo and Valmet in Finland.
technical description
Each locomotive had two diesel engines. These 16-cylinder, four-stroke, turbo-charged diesel engines had a bore of 175 mm and a stroke of 190 mm. They powered the generators that generated electricity for the traction motors. The electric traction motors had two gear ratios: a gear ratio "M" for passenger trains, which allowed a maximum speed of 140 km / h, and a gear ratio "G" for freight trains, with a maximum speed reduced to 100 km / h and a higher tractive effort. The asymmetrical external gear boxes of the axle drives and the internal gear sets were noticeable. The Hr13 were the last Finnish locomotives that were not equipped with SA3 central buffer couplings.

VR series Dr13
On January 1, 1976, there was a change in the Finnish series system. In the course of this change, the series was now referred to as the Dr13 series.
business
Until the electrification, the machines reliably carried the main load of the train traffic in Finland. They were the most powerful and fastest diesel locomotives on the Finnish State Railways.
On June 3, 2000, the last locomotive of this series was withdrawn from scheduled service. In the Finnish Railway Museum (Suomen Rautatiemuseo) in Hyvinkää , the number 2349 built by Lokomo in 1965 has been preserved as a working historic locomotive, as has number 2343 in Haapamäki.
