VRB-25 in the Highland Light

VRB-25 is the name of V ega R otating B eacon, a rotating beacon of the New Zealand Vega Industries Ltd in Porirua . It is used as a replacement for conventional beacon technology.

description

The VRB-25 was designed by Vega Industries in 1993-95 with support from the United States Coast Guard . A microcontroller monitors a 12 V electric motor that continuously rotates an array of six to eight Fresnel lenses made of acrylic glass around a lamp. The speed can be set in 248 steps from 0.5 to 15.9 min −1 . The respective identifier is generated by the number of lenses in connection with a certain speed. The central lamp changer can accommodate six incandescent lamps , which are protected from premature wear by a monitored voltage of no more than 12 V. The power of the lamps depends on the desired range and varies between 10 and 100 watts . Vega Industries also offers a variant with light emitting diodes .

commitment

The robust and low-maintenance system is particularly suitable for automated beacons, operation with solar energy and outdoors. It is in use worldwide with more than 600 copies and the 12 V standard beacon of the United States Coast Guard, for example in The Graves Light , Great Point Light and Highland Light .
