The Graves Light is a lighthouse on the Boston island of The Graves in Boston Harbor in the state of Massachusetts of the United States .
Building
The lighthouse, built from granite blocks , has a conical shape and is the tallest in the Boston Harbor area at a total height of 113 ft (34.4 m). Its light sends two white flashes of light every 12 seconds and extends up to 15 nm (27.8 km ).
history
The lighthouse was first put into operation in 1905 and at that time had a 1st order Fresnel lens . It was automated in 1976 and converted to solar power in 2001 . Today the optics work with a VRB-25 lens . The United States Coast Guard has been responsible for maintenance and servicing since 1948 .
On September 28, 1987, the structure was entered under the number 87002041 as part of the Multiple Property Submission Lighthouses of Massachusetts MPS in the National Register of Historic Places .
