VR Tve2 is the series designation of the Finnish state railway VR-Yhtymä for a series of small locomotives that were delivered to the state railways by the Saalasti engineering office in 1962–1964. A total of 8 locomotives were manufactured in the Turenki machine shop . The internal model names of the manufacturer were OTSO2 for the industrial version and OTSO2 / VR for the locomotives built with improved cab for VR.
history
Since the performance of the Tve1 series proved inadequate at some locations, the state railway decided to purchase seven similar but more efficient small locomotives from Saalasti . One of these was the manufacturer's OTSO2 model, which was supplied to several industrial companies. The other six locomotives were the OTSO2 / VR model. The locomotives were delivered in 1964.
In 1976 the State Railways acquired another used OTSO2 locomotive, which had previously been used by Oy Kazier Ab in Lappeenranta .
technology
The series TVE2 was almost completely similar to the dimensions as the series Tve1. The differences were the higher weight of the Tve2 and the more powerful air-cooled 175 HP Deutz diesel engine. The locomotives 441 and 448, the locomotives of the type OTSO2, differed in the transmission. As a result, they only had a top speed of 20 km / h, while the other locomotives in the series could drive 45 km / h. Some locomotives were later approved for a maximum speed of 50 km / h.
Use and whereabouts
The Tve2 locomotives were mainly used in workshops and depots as well as for special tasks for which the performance of the Tve1 was not sufficient. All locomotives used by VR were taken out of service by the 1990s at the latest. The last Tve2 used by VR was deployed in Pohjankuru .
The following locomotives have data from their résumés:
- Tve2 442 was sold to Easmar Logistics in 2013. The company Easmar Logistics Oy was founded on December 16, 2013. The company carries out shunting and reloading work in Kouvola . On February 29, 2020, she was taken on the road from Voikka to Hyvinkää. The locomotive has belonged to the Haapamäki Railway Museum since then. Previously, the Teräspyörä locomotive was used as a reserve locomotive.
- Tve2 445 was scrapped in 2016.
