VR Tve1 is the series designation of the Finnish state railway VR-Yhtymä for a series of small locomotives that were delivered to the state railway by the Saalasti engineering office in 1958–1963. A total of 30 locomotives were manufactured in the Turenki machine shop . The manufacturer's internal model name was OTSO1.

history

Small locomotives had to be procured in the 1950s when efforts were made to reduce freight costs. As a result, the number of marshalling yards and the number of shunting local goods trains was reduced, which made shunting locomotives necessary at stations where regular shunting work took place.

Most of the locomotives were mainly based at train stations in southern and western Finland.

technology

The engine room is in front of the end driver's cab. The locomotives have a rigid frame made of welded steel plates and support beams. The engine is an air-cooled Deutz F8L-614, the hydraulic transmission a Voith L 33 U. The power is transmitted from the transmission to the axles via chains. The locomotives have air brakes.

Use and whereabouts

Only a few locomotives are still in use, the majority of which were decommissioned in the 1980s and 1990s. Some were given to industrial companies as factory locomotives.

The museum has five locomotives, including Tve1 422 in the Haapamäki Museum Depot .

The following locomotives have data from their résumés:

  • Tve1 408 was sold to Höyryveturimatkat 1009 Oy in early 2017 . The locomotive was previously out of service at the Turku depot. Höyryveturimatkat 1009 Oy runs special trips on the Finnish route network and owns the steam locomotive Hr1 1009 . This was on the Mynttilä - Ristiina route with a special train from 7 to 8 July 2017 . Despite the maximum permissible speed of 20 km / h, the steam locomotive derailed due to a bearing damage. Therefore, on July 21, 2017, six passenger trains ran on the Tve1 408 between Turku station and the port of Turku.
  • Tve1 416 (Saalasti OTSO1, serial number 29/1960) was sold to Teräspyörä in December 2017. Previously it was used at the Pilkington glass factory in Lahti , which closed in 2012. Since then it has been parked there on the factory premises. It is used with the EVN 98 10 8008 416-4 in the workshop in Voikkaa of the railway vehicle manufacturer Teräspyörä.
  • Tve1 417 was tested by Easmar Logistics at the end of 2013. The company Easmar Logistics Oy was founded on December 16, 2013. The company carries out shunting and reloading work in Kouvola .
  • Tve1 420 was scrapped in 2016.
  • Tve1 426 was retired in April 2006.
  • Tve1 436 was handed over to the Keitele-Museo Oy Railway Museum in Keitele in early 2011 .
