For light shunting service, the United Swiss Railways (VSB) procured three light shunting locomotives of the type E 2/2 in 1876 .
construction
These 2/2 coupled tank locomotives had a low service weight of 13.5 tons, and empty they weighed 10 tons. They were obtained from Krauss & Cie in Munich, the purchase price was 18,000 Swiss Francs. The 5.9 meter long locomotive had an inner frame and the boiler was 1520 mm above the top of the rail. The open driver's cab with roof as well as the open inlet and outlet pipes together with the front regulator housing with the Ramsbotton safety valve mounted on it gave their typical appearance. The boiler had 71 boiler tubes with a length of 2200 mm. The wheelbase of the 870 mm wheels was 1700 mm. The front axle was suspended by a transverse spring, the rear axle by two longitudinal springs. They were set up for one-man operation and had no built-in speedometers. The outer engine acted on the rear drive axis. The control was an Allan eccentric control, the reversal was carried out by means of a lever slide on a scale track. For the coupling wheel, a sand spreader was installed for driving forwards and backwards, the sandpit was on the running plate. The two-block external brake (throw lever handbrake) acted on the rear drive axle, around 1895 a vapor barrier was subsequently installed. A steam heater was installed. She could take 2.3 m³ of water and 0.5 tons of coal with her as supplies.

commitment
The locomotives were used in light shunting and as factory locomotives. They were nicknamed donkeys by the staff .
When the railway company was taken over by the SBB, they were given new operating numbers, but were discarded as early as 1902. Locomotives B and C were sold to scrap metal dealers and scrapped.
The locomotive A (8197) was sold to the St. Gallen gasworks and started operating there as number 1 with the name St.Gallen . It was canceled in 1948.
