Vachaspati Mishra

Vachaspati Mishra ( Sanskrit : वाचस्पति मिश्र Vācaspati Miśra) was an Indian Brahmin from Mithila who lived in the 9th or 10th century. He wrote comments on various Indian teaching systems , namely Advaita Vedanta , Yoga , Samkhya and Nyaya .

Well-known works include Bhāmatī , a sub-commentary on Shankara's Brahmasūtrabhāṣya , with which Vachaspati Mishra founded the "Bhamati school" of Advaita Vedanta. The work Sāmkhyatattvakaumudī is the best known treatise on the Samkhya teaching. Tattvavaiśāradī is considered an important Subkommentar to Vyasa Yogasūtrabhāṣya and contributes greatly to the understanding of Patanjali Yogasutra at.
