Valdas Tutkus (born December 27, 1960 in Vilnius ) is a former commander in chief of the Lithuanian armed forces , with the rank of lieutenant general .

Military career

In 1982 Valdas Tutkus graduated from the war school in Tashkent and in 1991 from the military academy "MW Frunze" in Moscow . From 1995 to 1996 he studied at the NATO Defense College in Rome . On May 3, 1999, he became Lithuania's military representative to NATO and the EU and a defense attaché in Belgium. In August 2001 Tutkus was appointed Commander of the Land Forces by the President of Lithuania . Associated with this was the promotion to brigadier general that followed shortly afterwards .

Since June 30, 2004, Valdas Tutkus was the military commander in chief of the armed forces of Lithuania. In the same year he was awarded the rank of major general and on November 23, 2007 that of lieutenant general. Tutkus held the position of army chief for five years until he was officially adopted on July 3, 2009. His successor in office was Arvydas Pocius , who had replaced him in 2004 as commander of the land forces.
