The seat of the Valencian Academy of Language is in Valencia in the former monastery of Sant Miquel dels Reis. The institution was founded on September 16, 1998 by the Valencian Parliament.

aims

The aim of this academy is to achieve a standardized Valencian language. Valencian language is the name given to the Catalan language in the Valencian Community. The institution also wants to promote the use of this language in the Valencian area. The Valencian Academy of Language must respect the lexicographical and literary Valencian tradition.

Normes de Castello

In addition, the regulations of the Normes de Castelló must be observed. These Normes de Castelló had their origins in a meeting of Valencian writers and linguists that took place in Castelló de la Plana in 1932 . Then these writers and linguists decided to use the norms of Catalan orthography codified by Pompeu Fabra and already valid in Catalonia at that time in an adapted form for Valencian as well. Therefore, these orthographic norms are also known as Normes de Castelló ('Norms of Castellón').
