Valeska is a dark variety of sweet cherries belonging to the heart cherries .

origin

Valeska was bred from the Rube and Stechmanns Bunte varieties by the Jork fruit growing research institute in 1954 and brought into cultivation in 1966.

The fruit is large, oblong to heart-shaped with a uniform appearance. When fully ripe, the tough skin is shiny, dark brown-red, almost black. The soft flesh is dark red and very juicy. The taste is aromatic sweet with a pronounced cherry flavor. It has a medium burst resistance. The stone is medium in size, elongated and pointed. The stem is medium to long, about 4 cm, stands in a shallow pit. It ripens in the 3rd to 5th cherry week with a very long harvest window. Since it can be harvested from the tree for more than a week when fully ripe, it is also very suitable for home gardens .

The tree grows moderately. The crown is loose and pyramidal in shape. It is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. It blooms very early and bears early and regularly.
