The VanDusen Botanical Garden is a 22 hectare botanical garden in the Canadian city of Vancouver . Located in the Shaughnessy borough on the corner of West 37th Avenue and Oak Street, it is run by the City Park Authority and is volunteered.

The site originally belonged to the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) and was leased to Shaughnessy Golf Club in 1911. In 1960 the golf course was relocated and the CPR planned to build residential areas, but this met with opposition. In 1970 the Vancouver Foundation, the provincial government, and the city government signed an agreement. Financed by a donation from WJ VanDusen, a philanthropist and manager of the wood industry after whom the garden is named, the transformation into a botanical garden began in 1971. The opening took place on August 30, 1975.

It was agreed early on that no scientific research would be carried out, but rather that it would be limited to plant care. For this reason, the VanDusen Botanical Garden has no research facilities or herbaria . However, there is a specialized reference library in the administration building. The grounds feature carved totem poles , large stone sculptures, and a Korean pavilion that forms the focal point of the Asian section. In the garden, among other numerous grow rhododendrons , beech trees , flour berry bushes , ash , magnolia , heather bushes and holly .
