Vania Alleva

Vania Alleva (* 1969 ) is president of the Swiss trade union Unia .

Life

Vania Alleva is a Swiss-Italian citizen. She grew up in Zurich as the daughter of a truck driver and a seamstress. She studied art history in Rome. After her return to Switzerland, she worked as a journalist and teacher, and also completed a post-graduate degree in intercultural communication.

Alleva is married and lives in Bern.

Alleva started to work for the construction and industry union in 1997 and has headed the service professions sector at Unia since 2008. At the SGB delegate assembly in May 2009, she was elected SGB vice-president. In 2012 the Unia Congress elected her co-president. Since June 20, 2015, she has been the first woman to head Unia as sole president. At the Unia Congress in Geneva in 2016, she was confirmed in office with over 90 percent of the votes.
