Varus gonarthrosis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The varus gonarthrosis is a form of arthritis associated with a misalignment of a joint. The Latin word varus means crooked in German . From a medical point of view, one speaks of kinked or inwardly curved . The medial open angle and the so-called O-curvature are characteristic. In the case of a varus position (Coxa, Cubitus, Digitus, Genu, Manu, Pes) the joint is laterally convexly curved. One example is the bow leg position in the knee (genu varum). In general, osteoarthritis of the knee or osteoarthritis of the knee includes all diseases of the knee joint that are caused by wear. Osteoarthritis is caused by injury and roughening of the articular cartilage due to wear and tear. - In contrast, valgus gonarthrosis describes knee osteoarthritis with knock knees, in which the lateral (outer) meniscus has been used up.

treatment

The varus gonarthrosis, a "wear and tear" of the joint as a result of a varus position, can often only be treated surgically. Modern treatment methods have three goals:

  • Optimization of the joint function
  • Reduction of inflammation in the joints
  • Alleviation of pain

Conservatively, the misalignment can be compensated for with slow-soled, pressure-redistributing bedding insoles with an adapted pronation of 3–10 mm, or with valgus orthotics and postponing a final operation. However, there is no reliable evidence of the long-term benefits of these aids in terms of functional improvement.
