Vasilije Šijaković (born August 2, 1929 in Nikšić , † November 10, 2003 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav football player .

biography

Šijaković first played at FK Belgrade , for which he played in the third-highest division of Yugoslavia after the end of World War II . In 1951, FK Partizan Belgrade brought him into the first division, and a year later he joined city rivals Red Star . Here it was only used irregularly, so the club gave it to the OFK Belgrade in 1954 . Here he was a regular and won the national cup with the club in 1955. In 1957 he became a selection player in the Yugoslav national team . Although he was relegated to the second division with his club in the summer of 1958, he was part of the squad of national coach Aleksandar Tirnanić at the 1958 World Cup and played two tournament games, including the quarter-final game lost against Germany . As a second division player, he was also part of the national selection, with his club he managed direct resurgence in 1959. Ironically, in the summer of 1959, his national team career ended for the time being.

In 1962, Šijaković returned to the national team as a cup winner with OFK Belgrade and was appointed to the squad for the 1962 World Cup without a previous international appearance . In the game against the later finalists Czechoslovakia , he ran again for Yugoslavia three years after his last international match, but the 3-1 defeat was his only tournament appearance and thus the last of his eleven internationals. After the tournament he moved to France, at FC Grenoble 1892 he ended his career in Division 1 in 1964 .

Šijaković returned to Yugoslavia, where he acquired his coaching license in 1965 and worked primarily in the lower class division.
