Vaughn Bean (born September 3, 1974 ) is a former professional boxer in the heavyweight weight class .

He began his professional career in October 1992 at the age of 18. Bean, which is small for a heavyweight, initially boxed almost exclusively opponents with a negative match record. In March 1997 he was still a mandatory challenger in a title fight against IBF World Champion Michael Moorer . He lost just surprisingly just on points. After a few more victories against average opponents , he was allowed to challenge the WBA and IBF champion Evander Holyfield , who had defeated Moorer in the unification fight, in September 1998 . He lost this fight clearly on points and went down in the 10th round, but again held up better than most journalists expected. Again, he then only boxed against average opponents. On February 8, 2002 he suffered the first premature defeat of his career against Vitali Klitschko , he lost to technical knockout ( TKO ) in round 11.

This was followed by defeats on points to Tony Thompson and Yanqui Diaz in 2004 and 2005 controversial against Alexander Dimitrenko ; he has been inactive since that fight.
