Vay de Vaja (noble family)
The Vay de Vaja family is a Hungarian noble noble family that continues to this day.
Origin and historical appearance
The family comes from the upper Tisza , where it first appears in 1120 with the Nobilis Osnuth de Vaja. In 1272 there were seven members of the family in Szabolcz County , including Abraham, with whom the family line began. King Sigismund of Hungary, the later German Emperor Sigismund , issued Abraham de Vaja and his cousins Thomas and Stephan in Konstanz in 1418 with a letter of coat of arms, which was increased by King Wladislaus II in 1507 (for Ladislaus Vay, provost of Jaszo and titular bishop of Nicomedia ) and its relatives.
The family received the Hungarian baronate for the brothers Daniel and Nikolaus Vay de Vaja on April 18, 1783 and the Hungarian count on September 11, 1830 for Abraham Vay de Vaja .
