The Vebacom GmbH was founded in 1994 by German telecommunications company . As early as 1997 it was together with RWE Telliance to o.tel.o. merged.
background
The VEBA energy group , like other large energy companies , has grown historically and originally operated its own fixed telecommunications and telephone network, which was set up independently of the state monopoly of the Deutsche Bundespost (later Deutsche Telekom ) and only served internal purposes. In the course of the liberalization and privatization of the telecommunications market and on the basis of the existing network infrastructure, VEBA founded the subsidiary Vebacom in 1994 together with the British Cable & Wireless .
VEBA held 55% and Cable & Wireless 45% of the joint subsidiary. Together with Thyssen Telecom, Vebacom was one of the founding shareholders of E-Plus, each with a 30.2% stake .
The telecommunications company RWE Telliance , which was also spun off by RWE with a similar history , was merged with Vebacom in 1997 to form o.tel.o communications . This joint venture o.tel.o was sold to Mannesmann Arcor only two years later , with the result that the energy companies withdrew from the telecommunications market.
