In the canyon-like valley, which was largely unknown for a long time, limestone columns and rocks rise up to 100 m high. In 2004 a geological nature trail was laid out on the edge of the impressive canyon. Information about the valley can be found on numerous display boards along this path.

The inaccessible rock formations of the Vela Draga provide habitat for numerous protected animal and plant species. Among other things, the now rare Alpine swifts , golden eagles and peregrine falcons live there .

According to archaeological finds in the Pupčina Peč cave , the Vela Draga has been around since around 12,000 BC. Inhabited. Some of the striking rocks may have been prehistoric places of worship .
