The Velfjord is a Norwegian fjord that lies in the municipalities of Brønnøy and Vevelstad in Fylke Nordland . It is about 31 km long and extends from the Taurmanbotnet at the end of the Langfjord to the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean . A number of side fjords branch off from the fjord, including the Okfjord , Storfjord , Lislbørja , Storbørja , Sørfjord , Heggfjord and Langfjord.
The Fylkesvei 76 trunk road runs along the west bank .
Former parish
Velfjord is also a former administrative district belonging to Nordland, the administrative center of which was Hommelstø . The municipality was established on October 1, 1875 when it separated from the municipality of Brønnøy and had 1162 inhabitants at that time. On January 1, 1964, the municipalities of Velfjord and Brønnøy were reunited. Before the merger, the municipality of Velfjord had 1,380 inhabitants.
