The Association of German Pigeon Breeders eV (VDBZ) is the umbrella organization for pigeon racing in Germany. It was founded in 1884 and is based in 45327 Essen , Katernberger Str. 115.

The association includes around 64,000 pigeon breeders in around 8,000 pigeon breeding associations . These in turn have come together to form travel associations that organize and run races with carrier pigeons . In particular, they need a cabin express to transport the pigeons. Several travel associations form a regional association .

The association maintains its own special clinic for carrier pigeons ( pigeon clinic ) in Essen and publishes a weekly specialist magazine for carrier pigeon customers ( “The carrier pigeon” ).

The German carrier pigeon exhibition , which takes place annually in Dortmund in January (in 2010 the fair for 2011 took place in December, so that the fair took place twice within a year) is the most important event in the carrier pigeon sport worldwide.

The association has been supporting Aktion Mensch (originally: Aktion Sorgekind ) since 1969 . He has now become the largest single donor for this social initiative.
