Association of Medical Professions

The Association of Medical Professions e. V. is a professional association that was founded in 1963 as the professional association of medical assistants (BdA) . Since 1980, the association has also represented the interests of dentists and veterinary assistants and expanded its name to become the Professional Association of Doctors, Dentists and Veterinarians e. V. (BdA). With the entry into force of the new training regulations for dental assistants (2001) and medical and veterinary assistants (August 1, 2006), a new name became necessary.

The association was founded by women for women and focuses its work and commitment on medical, dental and veterinary specialists and, since 2010, on employed dental technicians.

The association has already concluded several collective agreements, including a. Nationwide valid for medical and veterinary specialists with the working group for the regulation of the working conditions of medical assistants (AAA), the representation of the resident doctors as tariff partner. Collective agreements for dental professionals only exist in Hamburg, Westphalia-Lippe, Hesse and Saarland. The Association of Medical Professions e. V. is represented nationwide and has four regional associations. As an independent union, it is not subordinate to any umbrella organization.

At the top are Hannelore König and Ingrid Gerlach as 1st and 2nd executive chairmen. The Presidium is responsible for political leadership. It includes: Susanne Haiber as President and Carmen Gandila as Vice-President. According to the company, the abbreviation VMF is not used.

In 2014, around 630,000 people were employed as medical, dental and veterinary assistants in Germany, mostly women. After the nursing professions, they form the second largest group in the health sector.
