Connecting network

A connection network (English core network , backbone network , short: core or backbone ) denotes those network areas of telecommunications networks , in particular telephone networks , which connect the local access networks or the subscriber exchanges with one another. Connection networks serve to impart local network cross-divisional narrowband -Fernverbindungen.

According to the terminology of computer networks , one can also speak of a wide area telephone network .

Subscriber network operators usually also operate connection networks. Connection network operators, on the other hand, have no access networks and therefore maintain pure connection networks .
