Composite casting

The composite casting is a casting method in which a single casting from different materials is produced. The second material can be cast before or after the first material has completely solidified.

Often a first casting is completed and then a second material is cast around it using sand casting , die casting or permanent mold casting . Since shrinkage, i.e. a reduction in size, of the casting occurs during the solidification process, tensions arise in the second casting, which ensure a mechanical connection between the two castings. Mixing of the two metals to form an alloy does not usually occur, but can be achieved through targeted pretreatment, for example with salts.
