The Cross of Merit for War Aid was donated by Kaiser Wilhelm II on December 5, 1916 . It could be awarded to all men and women who had particularly distinguished themselves in the patriotic service.

Design and way of carrying

The medal is an eight-pointed cross made of gray fine zinc and shows the inscription FOR WAR AID SERVICE in the medallion and underneath two crossed oak leaves , on the reverse the initial W R (Wilhelm Rex) surmounted by a crown .

The award was worn on a white, six-fold black striped, red-rimmed ribbon on the left chest.
