Polish Writers' Association

The Association of Polish Writers ( Polish: Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich , short: SPP) is an important artists' association alongside the Association of Polish Writers , which advocates the rights and interests of Polish writers. Both organizations are based in the House of Literature ( Dom Literatury ) in Warsaw . The association has 11 regional branches and around 900 members.

history

After the Union of Polish Writers was dissolved in 1983 for political reasons under martial law and shortly afterwards re-established with the same name but with a different statute, many former members who were critical of the system were not allowed to re-enter. After the system change , they founded the Association of Polish Writers on May 31, 1989 in Warsaw as an alternative to protest. Jan Józef Szczepański held the honorary chairmanship from 1990 to 2003 . Regular chairmen were Andrzej Braun (1990–1993), Ludmiła Marjańska (1993–1996), Marian Grześczak (1996–1999), Janusz Odrowąż-Pieniążek (1999–2002), Piotr Wojciechowski (2002–2005), Janusz Krasiński ( 2005–2005 ) 2008). Sergiusz Sterna-Wachowiak has been performing this role since 2008 .
