Jan Józef Szczepański

Jan Józef Szczepański (born January 12, 1919 in Warsaw , † February 20, 2003 in Krakow ) was a Polish writer. He was chairman of the Union of Polish Letters , which was dissolved during martial law, and in this capacity he was a participant in the round table that initiated the democratic upheaval in Poland in 1989. After the round table, the Association of Polish Writers came into being, and Szczepanski was its chairman for a year and then - until his death in 2003 - honorary chairman.

Szczepański wrote novels, essays and screenplays and also worked as a translator.
