Roof ridges (green, 7) and decay ridge (17)

The roof ridge, usually short ridge, is an edge on a sloping roof that forms an outside corner. It occurs when two roof surfaces collide. The throat , on the other hand, is an inside corner.

A ridge on composite roof surfaces is called decay, also called decay ridge, when it "falls" from a higher ridge to a lower one.

In the case of wooden roof structures, there may be a rafter on the ridge .
