Constitution blog

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Verfassungsblog (Verfassungsblog.de) is a blog on constitutional and legal-political topics. The articles appear in German or English .

history

The Verfassungsblog was founded on July 30, 2009 by Maximilian Steinbeis . In the beginning he operated the portal as the sole author, later he invited other scientists to publish their own articles in the constitution blog. The aim of the blog “was to create an interface between science and the political public”. In addition, it is "not about presenting research results, but about initiating debates."

Since 2011 there has been a cooperation with the project “Law in Context” of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin .

In the course of time, according to Steinbeis, the blog has developed in the direction of a journalistic medium, and in addition to German articles there are now also English articles and - due to the internationalization of fundamental rights - articles relating to European Union law . One goal of the blog is to develop into a European network of blogs on the topic.

In the meantime, over 1000 different authors have published articles in the Verfassungsblog.

Content

The constitution blog can be divided into the categories debate, editorial, simple articles and the podcast “Corona Constitutional” .

debate

Editorial

The editorial category contains the blog posts that are mainly written by Steinbeis. With the development of a debate platform, the contributions of that time have been sorted into this category. The articles appear in German and English every 7 days.

Simple articles

Simple articles deal with a topic freely chosen by the author, mostly in the area of constitutional law and constitutional politics. The aim is not to produce a scientific paper , but to make the content understandable for everyone.

Podcast "Corona Constitutional"

The podcast Corona Constitutional deals with topics of constitutional law and constitutional politics that are being discussed in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany and illuminates them from a legal perspective. The individual episodes are designed in the interview format.

Cooperations

There are collaborations with the Law Research Association in the context of the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Center for Global Constitution of the Berlin Social Science Center .

reception

The evaluation report of the research association Law in Context describes the constitution blog as "one of the most interesting and most frequently read forums for constitutional law and policy" and a "must read" for those interested in public, European and constitutional law.

Legal and academic mentions

For example, the Federal Court of Justice , the Schleswig-Holstein State Social Court or the Higher Administrative Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . The scientific services of the German Bundestag use the constitution blog as a source.

In the course of the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany, the OVG-NRW also used the constitution blog several times in the judgment to monitor standards .
