Constitutional referendum in Iceland in 2012

A non-binding constitutional referendum was held in Iceland in 2012 . Voters were asked if they would agree to six proposals contained in a new constitution. These were drawn up by the Icelandic Constitutional Assembly. All 6 proposals were accepted by the voters.

The possible questions were:

  1. Should the proposals of the Constitutional Council serve as a draft of a new constitution?
  2. Should natural resources that are not privately owned be declared national property in the new constitution?
  3. Should the new constitution contain provisions on an established (national) Icelandic church?
  4. Should the new constitution contain provisions to a greater extent than is currently the case, which allow the election of certain individuals to the Althing ?
  5. Should there be a provision in the new constitution that establishes equal rights for votes in all parts of the country?
  6. Should there be a provision in the new constitution that a certain proportion of the electorate will be able to demand that problems be referred to a referendum?
