Deformation energy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The deformation energy is a term from the engineering sciences , which in physics is called “elastic energy” (“ potential energy ”) or “ friction work ” (see also “ internal friction ”).

The deformation energy is the (potential) energy absorbed or the heat or radiation released during mechanical deformation or compression . In the event of a material deformation, the kinetic energy is always converted into elastic / potential energy and / or into frictional energy / work. This is also the case at the atomic level, whereby one usually no longer speaks of deformation energy, but of the absorption and release of well-defined energy quanta .
