history

After the Second World War, the head of the Haus Altenberg youth education center , Ludwig Wolker , tried to reorganize the work of the association. The Haus Altenberg publishing house was founded and on April 16, 1946 it received its license (C 1.424.B) from the British military government. The aim of those responsible for youth pastoral care was to create publications for youth ministers and young people. However, the lack of paper prevented the publication of the first books and notebooks. The first books came onto the market in 1947 and the publishing house became a GmbH, which continues to publish publications for young people in its legal form. Before the Second World War, the shareholders, Ludwig Wolker and Hermann Klens, were both heads of the largest associations for male / female youth: the Catholic Association of Young Men and the Central Association of Catholic Young Women’s Associations. The associated publishers of Catholic youth work have now merged to form Verlag Haus Altenberg. Originally located in Altenberg, where the main office for youth pastoral care was also housed under the direction of Ludwig Wolkers, the publishing office has been located in the Düsseldorf youth center on Carl-Mosterts-Platz since 1954 ; here the publishing house has developed and modernized.
