Lost in Sydney is a mini-TV series that continues the story of Oliver Twist where Charles Dickens left off his novel. It consists of four parts.

Friends and enemies in the New World

Jack Dawkins, nicknamed the Loopy Fox, is caught trying to bring Oliver Twist to his grandfather and locked in Newgate Prison. As a notorious thief, he was exiled to the British colony of New South Wales in Australia for seven years of forced labor . But the dodger manages to escape and he hides in a box in a warehouse at the port. As luck would have it, Mr. Brownlow sends Oliver to Australia to accompany Hannah Schuller, who wants to see her brother Michael there. The Schlaufuchs chose the box as a hiding place, which belongs to Oliver Twist's grandfather and which is to be loaded onto his ship, the Pride of Erin. He is discovered on board the ship and locked in the cell of the bush thief Will Grady, who was also exiled to Australia. Hannah Schuller secretly smuggles food to the two and saves their lives. But the seedy Pride of Erin boatswain plans to steal her mother's jewelry from Hannah and blame the loopy fox and Will Grady for it. So he plans to get rid of them and wants to throw them overboard. But Oliver learns of the plan and frees the Dodger and Will so that they can escape. When Michael arrives in Australia, however, there is no trace of Michael and Sergeant Bates, who is responsible for law and order in Sydney, makes common cause with the boatswain, leaving Oliver and Hannah only to flee. Together with the Dodger and Will, they hide in Doctor Hartmann's theater. There they are discovered by his assistant Becky Micova, but the doctor and Becky do not reveal them. You want to help solve the mystery of Michael's disappearance.

On the trail of Michael

Hannah learns that her brother came to Sydney on a ship called the Raven. She observes that Mr. Butterfield is being forced by Bates to publish Michael's letters. Meanwhile, it becomes increasingly clear that Bates is doing secret business and therefore has the whole of Sydney searched for Hannah, Oliver, Dodger and Will to make sure that no one uncovered his machinations. The well-known Fagin appears in town with his gang and makes life difficult for Hannah, Oliver, Dodger and Will - only to betray them, as it turns out, to Bates. Then a young student named Cedric appears and appears to be chasing the children. But since the Dodger saves his life, he does not reveal her to Bates and also agrees to bring Oliver's grandfather a letter from the children in which they tell him about Bates' wrong game.

Incognito: who is who?

To find out what happened to Michael, Hannah and Oliver want to look around Bates' storage room and look for clues. The only evidence they can find is that Colonel Springer is the owner of the Raven, the ship that Michael came to Australia on. Thereupon the Dodger, disguised as Lord Tuxley, a guest of the Colonel, gains entry to him. However, he is recognized by his daughter, who does not betray him, but enjoys setting one trap after the other so that he can be discovered. In the end, he manages to locate Michael's sea chest, letters and the jewelry from Hannah's mother. But that's when he is discovered by the real Lord Tuxley suddenly appearing and the Dodger has to flee. Meanwhile, Will behaves so conspicuously that he falls straight into Kelly and Scratch's trap and only escapes through Oliver and Hannah's courage. The four now know that Bates and Colonel Springer are in cahoots. To make matters worse, there is now a fever in Sydney, but the medication that should have arrived in the meantime has disappeared. Doctor Hartmann believes Bates kept it to make a profit. Hannah goes to Fagin to find out where her brother is and where Bates is hiding the drugs. But Fagin puts her in and just wants to answer one question. Since Hannah doesn't just want to think about herself, she asks about the medication. But the answer is of no use to her because they are in Bate's office and it is impossible to get there.

In the trap

Scratch has a fever - and Oliver and Hannah decide to nurse him back to health despite possible betrayal. In Butterfield's house, the children find a will and mysterious land deeds, which a little later turn out to be important evidence of Bate's hiding place. Dodger thinks he is on safe ground when he finds the theater and Fagin's cave deserted; with Kelly as his compulsory ally, he goes in search of Blackwater Farm, where his friends and Michael are already waiting for him. But they are still at the mercy of the sergeant.
