Packaging steel strapping is used for strapping goods, containers and pallet loads in order to secure them for transport. It is considered to be a sealing agent of the highest quality and extremely versatile .

Dimensions

Packaging steel straps are supplied worldwide in standardized dimensions:

Width (mm Width (inch)
12.7 1/2

1.45 0.057 Megaband special

Delivery unit

The delivery unit of packaging steel strip is the so-called coil. A distinction is made here between two different winding options:

  1. Layer winding / single layer / disc winding: Here the strapping is wound or reeled without oscillation .
  2. Pack winding: In this case the material is wound or reeled in an oscillating manner and delivered in coil weights of 45, 450 or 950 kg.

Grades

The steel packaging strap basically differs in two grades / classifications.

  1. Normal quality: The so-called normal quality is based on a low-alloy carbon steel .
  2. Machine tape / Extra: The high quality machine tape Extra is characterized by minimum tensile strengths and guaranteed elongation values. The expansion in the steel packaging tape is achieved by a heat treatment process. In the area of the machine belt / extra,> 6% according to A5 (DIN 5014 / DIN EN 10002-1) should be achieved.

Tensile strengths

The following tensile strengths are based on the material thickness of the packaging steel strip in the range of normal quality:

Strength tensile strenght
0.38 mm approx. 880 N / mm²
0.50 mm approx. 880 N / mm²
0.60 mm approx. 800 N / mm²
0.80 mm approx. 750 N / mm²
0.90 mm approx. 700 N / mm²

Areas of application for this quality of steel packaging strip can be found in the building material industry, where it is used to secure the transport of stones of all kinds. Typical applications can also be found in the wood and metal industries.

High strength tape

The second quality of the steel packaging tape is the high-strength variant of the steel strapping tape. This is also known as Megaband (R) or Ultra. The high-strength steel packaging tape is based on a high carbon steel or a high manganese and low carbon alloy.

The high-strength steel packaging tape differs in the following classifications:

  1. Megaband (R) / Ultra
  2. Megaband special, also called lashing / pulp strapping
  3. Super mega-band
Megaband (R) / Ultra

Due to an upstream heat treatment process in which a structural change is brought about in the strapping, the technical data of this packaging tape are the same for all material thicknesses:

0.50–1.00 mm approx. 1,000 N / mm² tensile strength
Elongation> 12% according to A5 (DIN 5014 / DIN EN 10002-1)

This quality is also known as Megaflex strapping. It has a higher elongation> 18% with a lower tensile strength of approx. 800 N / mm².

Megaband special / lashing / pulp strapping

Based on the Rotterdam harbor specifications, a special strapping was developed which is used for lifting loads and for special securing in maritime traffic. The lashing strap must always be marked with a special marking. This provides information on the surface of the material thickness and the respective approved manufacturer of this special strap. (H) or (L) stands for TITAN or PW LENZEN, for example.

(H) / (L) 0.8 mm material thickness
(H) (H) / (L) (L) 1.12 mm material thickness
(H) (H) (H) / (L) (L) (L) 1.45 mm material thickness

Tensile strength and elongation are guaranteed:

approx. 1,150 N / mm²
> 7% according to A5 (DIN 5014 / DIN EN 10002-1)

The lashing strap is guaranteed with a black painted or galvanized surface. The closure must be done by crimping .

surfaces

High quality machine tape / Extra is manufactured in three different surfaces:

Blued

This is an oxidized surface of the steel strip that occurs during the heat treatment of the steel.

Lacquered

Here a uniform, black paint application is usually applied. Either a dip coating process or an electrolytic coating process is used for this .

Galvanized

The steel packaging tape can also be galvanized to achieve optimal corrosion protection . All surface finishes are usually delivered in a slightly waxed form, because this prevents cold welding when used later in strapping tools.
