Erle C. Kenton (born August 1, 1896 in Norboro, Montana , † January 28, 1980 in Glendale , California ) was an American film director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Erle C. Kenton began his film career in the mid-1910s as an actor in the slapstick comedies by Mack Sennett . In 1919 he made his directorial debut in the short film comedy No Mother to Guide Him with Ben Turpin in the lead role. From the mid-1920s he directed longer films, mostly B-movies . Kenton made dramas, war films, westerns and comedies with WC Fields and Abbott and Costello . He is probably best known today for his Universal Pictures horror films The Island of Lost Souls (1932), Frankenstein Returns (1942) and Frankenstein's House (1945). In the 1950s, Kenton was mainly active in television and directed episodes of series such as The Texaner . For this he also wrote several scripts. In total he was involved in 140 productions in the course of his career.

Kenton died of Parkinson's disease in 1980 at the age of 83 and is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in California.
