The Texan , also The Man from Texas (original title The Texan ), is a 78-part western series produced by the American television station CBS from 1958 to 1960 .

The series tells the adventures of the Civil War veteran and gunslinger Bill Longley on his journey through various cities in the West. His keen sense of justice allows him to help those in need and to support friends and strangers in the fight for justice.
background
With the gunslinger Wild Bill Longley (born October 6, 1851, † October 11, 1871) was a historical role model. However, the real Longley was a brutal murderer with 32 lives on his conscience.
The ZDF exuded from May 25, 1968 a total of 13 episodes on Saturday afternoon in no particular order. Under the title The Texan , the series was broadcast in 1988 with all 26 dubbed episodes.
Numerous guest stars such as Michael Landon , Lon Chaney junior , James Coburn or Jack Elam appear in some episodes . Of the 78 episodes originally filmed, only 70 have survived. With Erle C. Kenton (26 episodes), Edward Ludwig (15 episodes), Robert Florey (7 episodes), George Archainbaud , Louis King and Jerry Thorpe some well-known directors have also worked on the series.
The scripts were written by well-known authors such as Barney Slater (3 episodes), László Vadnay (2 episodes), Thomas Monroe , Irving Wallace , Donald S. Sanford , Edward Ludwig and Louis King .

The series was nominated for an Emmy in 1959 for Best Artistic Director in a TV Movie .

The American Dell Comic Verlag published a comic book adaptation in 1959 and 1960 .
An American DVD box from the Timeless Media Group with the 70 episodes received has been available since 2008 . Pidax film released the four German episodes received on DVD in 2019.
