Martin Dale Chambers (born September 4, 1951 in Hereford ) is an English drummer who was best known for the rock band The Pretenders .

Career

Chambers began self-taught drums at the age of 16. In the mid-1970s, Chambers played in the band Cheeks by Verden Allen, the former Mott the Hoople keyboarder. Here he met James Honeyman-Scott , who later brought him to the Pretenders.

In November 1978 he became a founding member of the Pretenders. Its first membership lasted until the mid-1980s. Dealing with the deaths of bandmates Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon proved difficult and resulted in his dropping out during the Get Close sessions.

In 1994, Chambers rejoined the Pretenders during the sessions for Last of the Independents and has been a member ever since. Chambers turned out to be a versatile drummer within the group with a tougher style. Guitarist Adam Seymour said that "something is happening between Chrissie's guitar and Martin's drums ... Martin pulls the beat back while Chrissie pushes it forward." (Rhino Entertainment Company, 2006).

Chambers also played in the band Miss World with songwriter Jonathan Perkins, who had worked with artists such as XTC and Original Mirrors . In the fall of 2009, Chambers played with Verden Allen at seven Mott the Hoople reunion concerts .
