George Archainbaud
Georges Eugène Louis Marie Archainbaud (born May 7, 1890 in Paris , France , † February 20, 1959 in Beverly Hills , California , United States ) was a French film director .
Live and act
Archainbaud began his professional career in the early 1910s as an actor and manager assistant at the theater before emigrating to the USA immediately after the outbreak of the First World War . In Fort Lee , Archainbaud met the much older compatriot Émile Chautard , who immediately hired him as his assistant director . Soon afterwards (1917) Archainbaud began directing films himself. The majority of his works are B-productions , which have largely been forgotten today. Archainbaud staged adventure stories, dramas and melodramas for several production companies, as well as The Last Four, a gripping psychogram from the world of film with Erich von Stroheim in one of the leading roles. Archainbaud's specialty, however, was cheaply made dozen westerns that featured stars of the time such as Hopalong Cassidy and Gene Autry .
When Autry switched to television in 1950, he also took Archainbaud with him and let him direct his TV appearances. At the same time, the Californian by choice continued to direct feature films until 1953. Most recently, George Archainbaud even received a nomination for the directing award for his directorial work on the NBC series " Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers " (episode 1.5 " The Traitor ") at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1957 . Archainbaud's last job was directing nine episodes of the popular Lassie series. At the time of his death, George Archainbaud was in the process of filming a new western television series entitled " The Texan, " which starred Rory Calhoun .
